RMIT University Multi Faith Prayer Facilities, Bowen Lane, Melbourne (2007)
Client: RMIT University
Due to the growing demands for Islamic Prayer facility in the campus, RMIT University had sought a new approach for the same project. It started as a dedicated prayer space and later changed to a Multi Faith Prayer facility due to some specific management policies.
Our architectural solution is based on robustness of space, reflecting the universality of Islamic architecture, thus such adaptation was easily accommodated. Due to the nature of its consistent pattern of use, the facility was later rebranded as dedicated Islamic Prayer facility – back to its original purpose. The weekly Jumuah (Friday) congregation were intended to spill out into a shared area to maximise efficient space utilisation in a city centre campus.
