Carlton Mosque and Community Centre

Project: Carlton Mosque and Community Centre

Client: AAIS (Albanian Australian Islamic Society)

Category: Community/Place Making

Time: 1998 - Current

THE AAIS is another project where Desypher has remodelled and added to a group of structures built since 1960s into a comprehensive and unified centre that caters for the community's cultural, religious, and social needs.

Working with several committees since inception, Desypher applied its expertise in preparing, developing, and implementing a community-based masterplan and executing its sub-projects through to completion.

Key to this project is its inner city terrace house context and the gradual implementation of scaled form articulation, using various finishes including earthy render for masonry walls and corrugated iron.

Stage 5 of the Community Centre and Mosque for The Albanian Australian Islamic Society (AAIS) marking the final stage of the masterplan is nearing completion.

Desypher's long association with the AAIS demonstrates a well thought-out masterplan approach divided into manageable stages executed over time. Desypher congratulates AAIS on the completion of their centre, and we trust that it serves for many years to accommodate worshippers and a host of outreach programs that promote participation and interaction with those who are neighbours to the mosque.
