Golden Wattle Community Connect
Project: Golden Wattle Community Connect
Client: MMC (Melbourne Multicultural Centre)
Category: Community/Place Making
The aptly named "Golden Wattle Community Connect" is indicative of a project invested in its local community and the connections to be made therein.
It is a multi-layered masterplan on approximately 10 acres of land on the fringe of Melbourne's west
Desypher's second major place-making project following on from the REAP project in nearby Truganina adopts a similar premise - overlay the client's aims over universally accepted wider community benefits and propose a canvas that encourages activities that deliver to all.
For this project there are several overlapping community-benefit activities proposed that encapsulate the vision of the client;
The Aboriginal - Muslim Shared Heritage Centre - intended to showcase the historic relationships between the First Australians and Macassans and then Cameleers, and also as a facility for the nurturing of a renewed relationship based on mutual respect and understanding, promoting the idea of native food growing on the site on a community enterprise level.
Other community based activities involve, a community enterprise kitchen, training spaces, conference spaces, a men's shed, a farmer's market and community bazaar, sports facilities including a multipurpose sports hall and rooftop sports field. All these come with vested interest and participation from established community groups.
Kudos to our client for adopting such an approach, we anticipate that Stage 1 will commence mid to late 2023.
